Message from the Principal
Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year!
Dear Whitley Families,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I am thrilled to welcome both our new and returning families back to Dolores Whitley TK-8. Reflecting on my first year as your principal, I am deeply grateful for the way our community came together. Building on the strong foundation and meaningful work we accomplished together last year, we enter this new school year stronger, more connected, and ready to reach even higher.
At Whitley, “We Are Whitley” remains our guiding heart. It represents our shared identity and the deep strength we find in one another:
-
Students, eager to learn, lead, and grow
-
Teachers and staff, dedicated to nurturing and inspiring every child
-
Families and caregivers, actively supporting learning at home and on campus
-
Community members, enriching our school with their time, resources, and heart
An Exciting Milestone: Becoming a California Community School!
Building on our commitment to holistic student success, I am proud to share that Dolores Whitley TK-8 has been selected to become a California Community School!
A Community School uses a "whole-child" approach, recognizing that for students to excel academically, their physical, social, and emotional needs must also be supported. This designation means we will be actively working to bring even more resources directly to our students, parents, and neighborhood.
This year, our focus will include:
-
More Direct Resources: Connecting families with local health, wellness, and academic support services right on campus.
-
Expanded Learning Opportunities: Offering enriched programs, tutoring, and activities beyond the traditional school day.
-
Inclusive Community Events: Hosting workshops, gatherings, and family events designed to bring us all together and ensure everyone has a seat at the table.
"Together, we create a place where every child is seen, supported, and empowered."
As we step into this exciting new chapter, strong partnerships between our school and families remain essential. Thank you for your continued trust, energy, and dedication to our scholars.
Let’s make the 2026–2027 school year our best one yet—united with one purpose, one heart, one school.
Warm regards,
Dr. Porter
